Skeu It!

Monday, June 11th, 2012

Long have I loathed the leather buttons seen in several new interfaces from Apple, for they haunt my brain. From what distant future-past do they come? Will they return to it soon, leaving me in peace? I can only hope.

This sort of thing is known as skeuomorphism – taking a real-world element and rendering it graphically. While it’s sometimes used as a dirty word, the concept itself is relatively neutral. The execution, however, is often terrible. Skeu It! is a site dedicated to skeuering, err, skewering, the worst examples. Like this one:

KIDS! STOP THAT ROUGHHOUSING! YOU’RE GOING TO KNOCK OUR SOCIAL MEDIA ICONS OFF THE SHELF!

Though there aren’t a whole lot of entries (perhaps thankfully), there is a whole lot of funny.
