The Only GM EV1 Ever Publicly Sold

Six figures for this non-working car might actually be a bargain.

If you saw the film “Who Killed the Electric Car?”, you’re familiar with GM’s EV1. The vehicle was never sold to the public. Rather, it was leased, and eventually the company took them all back. A few were donated to museums, but all the rest were destroyed. All, that is, but for one. Decades later, VIN #4G5PX2250V0200212 became the first EV1 ever sold legally to the public.

The lucky EV1, with someone who is not the owner.

The Autopian has the wild story of how this EV1 survived against GM’s wishes, and how it’s now in private hands. Thanks to friend-of-the-site Alex S. for passing this along.
