Newsday is a major paper in Long Island. In 2009, it’s weekday circulation rate was 11th in the country, at nearly 400,000. Back in October, got put behind a paywall, forcing readers to pay for access.

So, three months later, how many people have signed up to pay $5 a week, or $260 a year, to get unfettered access to

The answer: 35 people. As in fewer than three dozen. As in a decent-sized elementary-school class.
