A Train Ride From the Past

The MTA is running a train first put into service in 1917 (and last used in the 60s) for a few weekends this month. Why? HBO is sponsoring an entire old-time subway train in Manhattan, to promote the second season of their show Boardwalk Empire. The train is mocked up with old-time signs and pictures to serve as an ad for the series, which is focused on corrupt politics in Atlantic City during Prohibition.

It’s a neat idea, providing a chance to see an older train in action. Of course, you might point out that the subway certainly won’t take you to Atlantic City. After all, New York City is over 2 hours away from Atlantic City by car. Atlantic City isn’t what it used to be, however, and that includes its value to advertisers.
