Quite the Journey

Stories about tsunamis occasionally pop up in Twitter search feeds for mentions of this site, when they include the words “one” and “foot”. Generally these stories are about disaster and destruction, but the story entitled “70-Foot Japanese Dock Washes Up in US Over One Year After Tsunami” is a bit less depressing and a bit more fascinating.

The origin of the nearly 70-foot-long dock was confirmed by the Japanese consulate in Portland, Oregon, by means of a commemorative plaque naming the manufacturer, and the discovery of a starfish native to Japan among the marine life still clinging to the structure more than a year after it went adrift, said Chris Havel, Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation spokesman.

The world is a crazy place.
