Aptly Named

Last week, the EFF announced that they had successfully invalidated a bogus patent related to podcasting, which was being used to shake down small podcasters for money. This is good news. But perhaps the best part of their post is this quote:

“We’re grateful for all the support of our challenge to this patent. Today is a big victory for the podcasting community” said EFF Staff Attorney Daniel Nazer, who also holds the Mark Cuban Chair to Eliminate Stupid Patents [emphasis added]. “We’re glad the Patent Office recognized what we all knew: ‘podcasting’ had been around for many years and this company does not own it.”

Yes, noted basketball fan Mark Cuban gave money to the EFF to create a Chair to Eliminate Stupid Patents, and that’s just perfect.
