A week ago, the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA championship. After that, the team reportedly flew down to Miami to “enjoy some milder weather”. Milder June weather in Miami than Boston, sure, that’s normal and not at all concerning.
Anyhow, following the victory, a traditional duck boat parade of champions was scheduled for Friday, June 21. Over a million fans were expected to flood the city for the festivities. As such, on Thursday morning, several schools on and near the parade route learned that their Friday was cancelled. A few hours later, Friday classes were cancelled for all schools in Boston. This meant that for students across the city, the last day of school for the entire academic year was suddenly occurring that very day.
Today, Thursday June 20th, is the last day of school for Boston Public Schools. Any families or caregivers that need to retrieve their students’ belongings should reach out to their school to coordinate.
Picture it. You’re a kid in the Boston Public School system, and the local basketball team wins the NBA championship. That’s pretty great! But then, as a result of their victory parade, school is abruptly cancelled. Your current day of school is your last day of school for the entire year. Can you even imagine how great that would feel?
