Brisbane’s Ruth Frith has set a world record in the shot put, at the World Masters Games. What’s the hook? She’s 100 years old (and to be sure, her record is specific to the 100+ class).

Frith was pragmatic about her victory in a competition where she was the only entrant, stating:

I only had to turn up to win the medal, but that wasn’t going to be good enough for me. I had to show everyone that I could still do it.
