In St. Petersburg, Russia, radical art collective Voina painted a 220-foot long/tall phallus on a drawbridge, to highlight and protest the security measures in place as their city hosted the International Economic Forum.
As the bridge was raised, the penis appeared, erect, next to the local headquarters of the FSB, Russia’s main internal security agency. Volna issued a statement about their actions:
We have painted a giant phallus to show what the FSB and Interior Ministry are doing in terms of security for the forum.
I can’t say I quite understand their protest. I suppose it’s just simply mockery, indicating that the FSB is clownish. Regardless, I’m amused by the juvenile cleverness employed here.
