Four Loko is dead, but what can be done with the body? Some quantity of product must have been left over when the product was pulled, right? Reader Steve McCready pointed me to the fact that it’s being recycled, in impressive fashion:
MXI distills the alcohol from the drinks, then sells the fuel to be blended into gasoline, Potter said. It sells the aluminum cans to a recycler. Potter estimated it takes “30 days until it’s back on the shelf as another beer can.” It also recycles the drinks’ water, cardboard packaging and shipping pallets.
So, it seems Four Loko is similar to gasoline in more ways than just taste. It’s also good for your car to drink, but not for you to drink.
Also, “wide-awake drunk”? Now there’s a disturbing new phrase.
