For Reference, Senators Earn $174K a Year

Harvard professor Gary King has been studying how the US Senate communicates. As you might guess from the recent near-shutdown of the government, the answer is “not well”.

He learned, to his amazement, that modern members of Congress spend about 27 percent of the time just taunting each other.
