Not a Smart Bet

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Jona Rechnitz is a lucky man. Instead of losing the $1000 bet he placed on a ridiculously unlikely scenario, he saw it pay off, when the Giants got a safety against the Patriots for the first score in the Super Bowl. Still, doesn’t it seem like betting that the first score of a game will be a safety, by one specific team, should pay off at a lot better than 50-to-1? It seems like a bet of $10 ought to earn $50,000.

“Nope,” he joked, “When you beat Vegas, you leave Vegas.”

That’s not a joke, that’s just how you avoid losing your shirt.
