In recent years, the Old Gray Lady has a few new tricks, but this goofy one may be my favorite. Check out Times Haiku for, in their words, “serendipitous poetry from the New York Times”.
The results are great, and in the spirit of haiku, the whole system is rather simple. An automated process periodically scans the NYT front page for haikus (of the simple and popular 5-7-5 type), then human moderators sift through the results and post their favorites. Visit their About page learn more about the process, including the meaning behind the straight lines in the image above.
