As the extent of the NSA’s domestic spying has been revealed, defenders of the programs have claimed they’ve saved countless lives. As time has gone on, the evidence has shown this is not accurate. Now, the NSA has been reduced to calling the spying “insurance”.
“I’m not going to give that insurance policy up, because it’s a necessary component to cover a seam that I can’t otherwise cover.”
As Techdirt notes, that same “logic” covers almost any violation of the 4th Amendment.
