Apparently, toilet paper shortages caused by COVID have led to an increase in sales of high-tech Japanese toilets that wash your butt for you. That’s interesting, but it was this line that really caught my eye.
“Although Washlet sales in the US have grown significantly, they are still far behind the penetration rate in Japan,” said [Shinya] Tamura, who is the managing executive officer in charge of Toto’s housing equipment business in North America and Europe.
Perhaps it would be best to avoid the word “penetration” in this context?
