For-Profit Healthcare Is Fundamentally Flawed

“From you, alright? We learned it by watching you.”

The public response to the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO has frequently been callous, but there’s a reason for that. The hundreds of millions of citizens stuck dealing with America’s for-profit healthcare system have had a whole lot of pretty terrible experiences. Put another way, Americans actually hate their private health insurance.

What is particularly stunning about all this is that one of the core arguments used against putting in place a single-payer health care system like Medicare for All in the United States — by politicians, political commentators, corporate flacks — is that people simply love their private health insurance too much. These comments show this is blatantly untrue.

Perhaps this will be a turning point, leading to positive changes to our current wretched system. We can only hope.
